Step 4: Secure Your Secret Recovery Phrase

Your Secret Recovery Phrase is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of wallet setup.

What it is:

  • 12 words that restore access to your wallet
  • Your ultimate backup if you lose your device
  • Cannot be changed once created

How to store it safely:

  1. Write it down on paper (never store digitally)
  2. Double-check the spelling of each word
  3. Store in a secure location (safe, safety deposit box)
  4. Make multiple copies stored in different locations
  5. Never share with anyone - MetaMask will NEVER ask for it

Step 5: Verify Your Recovery Phrase

  1. Click through each word in the correct order
  2. Confirm your phrase matches exactly
  3. Complete the verification

Congratulations! Your wallet is now created.
