A stainless steel capsule you punch your wallet backup into, so your recovery words survive fire, water and impact.
A hardware wallet keeps your keys safe while it works, but the recovery words it gives you at setup are the only way back in if the device is lost, broken or stolen. Most people write them on the paper cards in the box. Trezor Keep Metal replaces the paper with a stainless steel capsule you punch the words into, so the backup survives a house fire, a flood or years in a drawer.
Built to outlast paper. The capsule is AISI 304 stainless steel with a black surface treatment. Trezor rates it as waterproof, resistant to acid, alkali and chemical corrosion, and resistant to extreme temperatures.
Only four letters per word. You punch the first four letters of each recovery word, which is enough to identify it in the standard word list. That keeps the job manageable and leaves less room for mistakes.
Hard to get wrong. A pre-marking pen lets you mark each letter before punching, and a holding box keeps the capsule steady while you work. The layout is pre-marked to match exactly what a Trezor generates.
Discreet and tamper-evident. Closed, it looks like a plain metal tube rather than a crypto backup, and the security seal stickers show whether anyone has opened it.
It is a backup, not a wallet. It stores your recovery words. It does nothing on its own, and it pairs with a hardware wallet such as the Trezor Safe 3, Safe 5 or Safe 7.
Anyone who finds it can read it. Steel protects against fire and water, not against people. Store it as carefully as you would cash, and consider a passphrase on your wallet so the words alone are not enough to empty it.
Punching takes time. Set aside half an hour and do it somewhere private, away from cameras and phones. Never photograph the finished backup.
Buy the version that matches your backup. The three versions are laid out for different backup formats, covered below. Check how many words your wallet gave you before you order.
| 20-word | 24-word | Multi-share | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backup format | 20-word Single-share Backup (SLIP39) | 24-word backup (BIP39) | 20-word Multi-share Backup (SLIP39) |
| Who it suits | Anyone setting up a current Trezor (Safe 3, 5 or 7), where this is the default | Older Trezor wallets, and other wallets that use the common 24-word standard | People splitting a backup into several shares kept in different places |
| Price (October 2026) | £89 | £89 | £240 (shown against £267) |
20-word is the one most people need. Every current Trezor creates a 20-word Single-share Backup by default, and this version is laid out for exactly that.
24-word is for the BIP39 standard. If your wallet gave you 24 words, from an older Trezor or another brand of hardware wallet, this is the version to buy.
Multi-share is for an advanced setup where a Trezor splits your backup into several shares, and a set number of them (the threshold) is needed to recover the wallet. No single share exposes your funds, and losing one does not lock you out. The capsule has a section to record the share count and threshold. At £240 against £267, three times the single price, check the pack contents on the Trezor Shop page before ordering.
