Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet

A small, open-source hardware wallet with a certified Secure Element chip, PIN and passphrase protection, and on-device confirmation of every transaction.

Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet

The Trezor Safe 3 is Trezor's entry-level hardware wallet. It keeps your private keys on a dedicated device, away from your computer and phone, and asks you to confirm every transaction on the device itself before anything is signed.

Why it suits a first wallet

  • Secure Element chip (certified EAL6+). The chip that guards your PIN and keys is built to resist physical attacks as well as online ones.
  • Open-source design. Trezor publishes its firmware and hardware design, so the security claims can be checked rather than taken on trust.
  • PIN and passphrase, entered on the device. A passphrase adds a hidden wallet on top of your recovery words, which helps if your backup is ever found.
  • On-device confirmation. The two-button pad and small OLED screen show the address and amount, so malware on your computer cannot quietly change where funds go.
  • Wallet backup with 12, 20 or 24 words. It ships with two 20-word backup cards and supports Trezor's Multi-share Backup for splitting a backup across several places.

Things to know before buying

  • Wired only. It connects over USB-C and has no Bluetooth. That limits mobile use (Trezor Suite on iOS cannot send or set up the device), but it also keeps the device off the air.
  • Small screen. The 0.96" monochrome display is fine for checking addresses but is not a touchscreen.
  • Two versions. There is a universal model that supports thousands of coins and tokens, and a Bitcoin-only model. Pick the one that matches what you hold.
  • Buy it new from the official shop or an authorised reseller. A second-hand or tampered device is the main way a hardware wallet gets compromised. Trezor ships with tamper-evident seals; check them on arrival.
